The Amazing Banksy
While doing my duty as an honor student by doing my homework late at night I got reminded of Banksy. Some of you might have heard about him or seen his work. For those of you who haven’t, shame on you. Banksy is a England-based graffiti artist who uses graffiti to comment on what’s going on in the world – either it’s political or socialistic. He combines dark humor with graffiti and his work is featured on streets, walls, and bridges of several cities throughout the world. His art has dealt with an array of themes, including anti-war, anti-fascism, and anarchism, anti-capitalism and so on. He commonly critiques greed, poverty, boredom, despair and absurdity.
He is a little crazy and always goes the extra mile to get his point across. At the London Zoo, he climbed into the penguin enclosure painted “We’re bored of fish”. Another story, and maybe more known, is the nine art pieces he did on the Israeli West Bank barrier which included an of a ladder going up and over the wall and an image of children digging a hole through the wall. This artist is so creative, and I would even go so far to say he is a genius. So enjoy the art and this amazing artist. I know I do.
Now, I’m off to the Hawaiian Film Festival to watch two movies: “The Bully Project” and “Headhunters”. I am so excited. It’s going to be a great evening. Until next time, mahalo ♥
